Ministry of Health Launches Nursing Standard Operating Procedures

On 30 July 2026, the Ministry of Health launched the first volume of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Nursing in Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare. This is a unified framework for daily practice of nurses, supporting improved quality of care and patient safety across Kosovo's health system.

Addressing the event participants, Minister of Health Dr. Arben Vitia said the new SOPs establish a common foundation for nursing practice in hospitals, helping standardize professional care and ensure consistent, high-quality services for patients regardless of where they receive treatment.

The launch event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Hospital and University Clinical Service of Kosovo (UHCSK), the Chamber of Nurses, Midwives and Other Health Professionals, healthcare institutions, and development partners.

Addressing the event, Dr. Lia Tavadze, Team Leader of the Integrated Health Services (IHS) Project, emphasized that standard operating procedures translate professional knowledge into consistent daily practice, strengthening accountability, teamwork, quality of care and patient safety.

The Ministry of Health thanked the working group, nursing professionals and partners for their contribution to developing the document.
