Patient Pathway Consultations in Peja and Gjakova

On 8 and 9 July 2026, the Integrated Health Services (IHS) Project, together with international consultant Dr. Farhad Riahi, conducted field consultations in Peja and Gjakova to assess patient pathways for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

The visits brought together management, clinical and administrative staff from the General Hospitals and Main Family Medicine Centres (MFMCs) in both municipalities. Through visits to primary healthcare facilities, emergency departments, specialist outpatient services, internal medicine wards and triage units, the team observed how patients move through primary and secondary levels of the health system, from disease detection and diagnosis to treatment, referral, follow-up and long-term care.

The consultations focused on identifying opportunities to strengthen coordination between the levels and improve the continuity of care for patients living with chronic diseases. Discussions with hospital and primary healthcare management, doctors and nurses teams also explored institutional priorities and future support needs.

The visits to the partners’ sites form an important part of the IHS Project's ongoing efforts to strengthen integrated, patient-centred care and support the continued improvement of noncommunicable disease services in Kosovo.
